You may know what you want for your home, but may not be quite sure where to begin. We are here to guide you through the design process with a well thought out plan, and introduce you to new ideas and solutions for your home. Outlined below is a brief overview of the steps we will take to ensure that your project will be a success.
The design consultation is the first step for every new project. During this initial meeting we will determine the scope of your project, your goals and your budget. We will discuss all rooms involved in the project and how you intend to use each space. It is best to work out your finances and set an overall budget before you begin the project. If you are unsure about where to begin, I will help you set a realistic budget for your space. Design fees are calculated separately from the budget.
LETTER OF AGREEMENT AND DEPOSIT
Shortly after the initial consultation you will receive a letter of agreement. The letter of agreement will detail the scope of your project, fee structure, policies and procedures. Along with the signed letter you will be required to pay a deposit which will be credited against your final invoice at the end of the project.
Once we have developed the floor plans, the next step is to create the design scheme. This involves developing a color palette and selecting fabrics, furniture, fixtures and finishes. We will design any custom furniture, built-ins and window treatments. Materials for flooring, counters and cabinetry will be selected and wall and floor coverings will be considered. During this process you will be asked for feedback which will be incorporated into a final plan for each room. Once the design scheme is ready a presentation meeting will be scheduled where we will go through the design in detail. You will be presented with fabrics, drawings, photos and samples for each element in the design and will be given a budget outlining the cost of each item with work orders to sign off on where appropriate. Creating the design scheme is a time-consuming process and will require several weeks, depending on the scope of your project.
The actual design portion of the process consists of three phases, the space plan, the design concept and the installation.
A carefully laid out space plan is crucial to every well designed room. After all the measurements have been taken a floor plan will be developed for each room which will allow us to determine what can fit in a space, how the pieces should be arranged, and the scale of each piece in the plan. The amount of time this takes will vary depending on the size of your project.
Once the work performed by tradespeople has been completed we will install and style your spaces. At this point the furniture will be delivered, the window treatments will be installed, the rugs will be laid, If it can be arranged, we have it all done on the same day so you will see the final product when you walk in the door. On installation day I will also bring a selection of art, accessories, pillows, lamps, and other items to be placed throughout the space to ensure that your design is perfect down to the last detail. You then have the option to decide if you love some, none or all of the extras. Whatever you would like to keep, you purchase. The other items are returned at no expense to you. This is how we ensure that we deliver a complete design every time.
