Small Changes, Big Impact - Decorating Ideas You Can Do In A Day.

Colder weather means that we are spending more of our weekends inside.  Here are some of my favorite decorating ideas that can be accomplished in a day.

Organize with trays - Corral items like TV remotes on a tray on the coffee table, or make an arrangement in the tray with stacked books, candles and a flower vase. Put liquor bottles, glasses, and bar accoutrements on a tray in the living or dining room.

Paint the Lampshades -Buy an inexpensive paper shade and paint it to complement your rooms color scheme.  It will give new life to the lamp and the room.

Bring on the Branches - Fill an empty corner with branches then light the arrangement from below with an inexpensive spotlight.  It will cast a fantastic shadow into the corner and on the ceiling.

Rehang your artwork - Put pieces in unusual places, like above a door or lean some against a mirror. Hang several in an asymmetrical collage, at least three inches apart, like these antique mirrors.

Display Children's Art - Display drawings in a colorful frame, or in a white frame with a colored mat. Hang them in an otherwise unimaginative space. They're full of spirit — and meaningful.

Refresh the bath - Change your shower curtain, or just the liner. Add fragrant candles and a small bouquet. Clear the counters of everything except your prettiest essentials.

Wallpaper the shelves or paint the cabinets  - Try papering the back of your bookshelf in a fun pattern. Paint can't come close to the impact. It will inspire you to rearrange your shelves. Or put a bold color on the inside of your kitchen cabinets. It will look fabulous behind your glass doors.

Update a light fixture - Replace the light fixture in a front hall or sunporch with something fun and interesting.  It will give new life to the space and be a conversation starter.

New Nobs - Replace your kitchen cabinet knobs.  You will be surprised how much new life updated knobs can bring to your kitchen.
